THE COVID-19 CHRONICLES OF MALAYSIA

The Covid-19 Chronicles of Malaysia is a compelling collection that documents Malaysia’s experience during the Covid-19 pandemic, capturing the challenges, sacrifices, resilience and unity shown by the nation in one of the most difficult periods in modern history. Through personal accounts, photographs, reflections and historical documentation, the book records how Malaysians from all walks of life navigated uncertainty, loss and change while adapting to a new reality shaped by the global health crisis.

The book highlights the efforts of frontliners, healthcare workers, government agencies, volunteers and ordinary citizens who played vital roles in protecting communities and supporting one another throughout the pandemic. It also explores the social, economic, and emotional impact of Covid-19 on the country, preserving these experiences as an important historical memory for future generations.

More than just a record of events, The Covid-19 Chronicles of Malaysia serves as a tribute to the resilience, compassion and solidarity of Malaysians. It reminds readers of the importance of collective responsibility, empathy and perseverance during times of crisis, while reflecting on the lessons learned from a defining chapter in the nation’s history.

Qistina’s Review:

When Covid-19 first emerged, the world was in shock. We watched as the number of cases and fatalities rose rapidly, and fear began to spread across nations almost as quickly as the virus itself. It was a time filled with uncertainty, where daily life as we knew it came to a sudden halt. Here in Malaysia, we felt it deeply. Our routines changed overnight, our movements were restricted, and the sense of normality we once took for granted was completely reshaped. It was a period that tested not only our healthcare systems, but also our patience, resilience, and unity as a nation.

Against this backdrop of fear and disruption, The Covid-19 Chronicles of Malaysia stands as a powerful and reflective record of what we lived through. Through a thoughtful combination of archival photographs, firsthand accounts, and historical reflections, the book brings us back to those difficult moments while also showing how we endured them together. As we turn its pages, we are reminded not only of the scale of the crisis, but also of the human strength, compassion, and solidarity that emerged in response. It is both a documentation of hardship and a tribute to how we, as a nation, navigated one of the most challenging chapters in recent history.

“MOH publishes list of fake news about 2019-nCoV that it has debunked to ensure citizens are getting valid and reliable information” – The Approach, page 23.

The book pays tribute to the sacrifices made by frontliners, healthcare workers, volunteers and communities who worked tirelessly to safeguard public health and support one another. It also documents how daily life, education, work and social interactions were transformed during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period. By preserving these memories, the publication ensures that future generations will be able to reflect on the challenges and lessons brought by the pandemic.

“Hadiah yang terbaik sekali, Adalah daripada warga Malaysia yang “duduk rumah” dan menjaga kebersihan diri. Thank you Malaysian and let us all continue to fight and end Covid-19 transmission. We can overcome this together. Stay safe and stay home.” – Noor Hisham Abdullah, Director-General of Health, Malaysia, page 154.

Personally, I think people should read The Covid-19 Chronicles of Malaysia because it serves as both a historical record and a reminder of the strength found in unity and compassion. The book encourages readers to appreciate the resilience of Malaysians during times of hardship while recognising the importance of empathy, cooperation, and collective responsibility in overcoming national challenges.

“Malaysia continues the journey – learning, adapting, adjusting, inventing, recouping, and thanks the Almighty for both small and breathtaking graces- a responsive nation, an awesome frontliner army, a sensitive third sector, a receptive private sector, and amazing international partners.” – Together, with Thanks, page 272.
