The International Women’s Day may have passed, but it is never too late to honour the achievements, resilience, and contributions of women in shaping Malaysia’s progress. In the spirit of “Wanita Beraspirasi, Membina Legasi” (Aspiring Women, Building Legacies), we recognise the trailblazers who have broken barriers in public health, conservation, sustainability, sports, advocacy, and the arts. Their impact extends beyond borders, inspiring future generations to continue paving the way for progress. As we celebrate their journeys, we also reaffirm our commitment to uplifting and empowering women in all spheres of life.

A globally recognised infectious disease expert, Datuk Dr. Adeeba Kamarulzaman has been a leading voice in the fight against HIV/AIDS and public health crises. She made history as the first Asian president of the International AIDS Society (IAS) and has worked closely with global health organisations like the WHO. She was also instrumental in shaping Malaysia’s COVID-19 response. Her contributions to medical research and policymaking have left a lasting mark on international healthcare.

Jenn Low, founder and CEO of Wanderlust + Co, built her Malaysian jewellery brand into an internationally recognised name. Her success in merging creativity with business has placed her brand in major retailers and on global celebrities. A strong advocate for sustainable fashion, she proves that Malaysian entrepreneurs can make it big on the world stage.

P. Jayanthi is a long-distance running legend whose national records in the 1500m, 3000m, and 10,000m have stood strong for over 30 years. She made headlines in the 1990s by repeatedly breaking her own records at international events, earning her the Coca-Cola Olympian of the Year award. A true inspiration for aspiring athletes, her legacy continues to motivate the next generation of endurance runners in Malaysia.

Tengku Datin Paduka Setia Zatashah is a passionate environmental advocate and a driving force behind sustainability and wildlife conservation efforts in Malaysia. She founded the #SayNo2Plastic campaign, actively supports Zero Waste Malaysia, and works with the Global Environment Centre to promote river and forest conservation. Her dedication to protecting the planet has inspired many to embrace greener lifestyles.

Award-winning comic artist Erica Eng made history as the first Malaysian to win an Eisner Award for her webcomic Fried Rice. Deeply rooted in Malaysian culture, her storytelling has gained global recognition. Now working on her latest project, Beloved, she continues pushing creative boundaries while using her art for advocacy.
The list of accomplished Malaysian women goes beyond this page, and it is impossible to list each and every woman who has made an impact on Malaysia, but we would like to mention young ladies who are inspiring other women, young and old, to go after their goals.

The ten exceptionally talented students from Sekolah Seri Puteri (SSP) Cyberjaya have already made Malaysia proud. Their outstanding performance at the 29th International Competition and Festival of Folklore, Dance, and Music Etoiles De Paris earned them top prizes, proving that passion and dedication to showcase Malaysia’s cultural heritage can take you to the global stage.
Equally inspiring is Ravindeer Kaur, a devoted wildlife researcher whose unwavering commitment to hornbill conservation since 2006 has played a vital role in protecting Malaysia’s biodiversity. Her remarkable efforts have not gone unnoticed, earning her the prestigious Terrestrial Conservation Leadership Award—a testament to her dedication to preserving our nation’s natural treasures.
Of course, this is just a glimpse of the many incredible Malaysian women who continue to shape our future. Women have always played a vital role in nation-building, and their strength, determination, and leadership drive progress in every field. As we celebrate Women’s Month, let’s commit to supporting, uplifting, and championing the women who are leading today and inspiring tomorrow.
