Perdana Leadership Foundation invites photography enthusiasts to enter our Merdeka Photo Contest 2018.

From 1st August to 16th September 2018, shutterbugs of all stripes are invited to enter Perdana Leadership Foundation’s Merdeka Photo Contest with the theme,“Saya Sayang Malaysia” (I love Malaysia). 

We invite Malaysians to share photos that depict their love of Malaysia, and their pride in being Malaysian.

Here’s how you can participate*:

1. Register as a member of the Perdana Library
2. Follow us on Instagram @plfperdana
3. Upload the photo on your own Instagram profile, and set profile to ‘public’
4. Tag us @plfperdana, and hashtag the photo with #plfmerdeka2018
5.Tell us, in 50 words or less, why you love our country Malaysia. Caption can be in Bahasa Malaysia or English.

THE PLF MERDEKA PHOTO CONTEST 2018

1. Theme
The main theme of this year’s Merdeka Photo Contest is “Saya Sayang Malaysia.”
The theme is chosen in conjunction with our country’s theme for Merdeka this year which is “Sayangi Malaysiaku”.
We invite Malaysians to share their photos, showing their love towards Malaysia. Photos can be of people, arts and culture, landscape and architecture, or even favourite Malaysian food or drink.

2. Dates
The Merdeka Photo Contest 2018 will be organised throughout the month of August. The contest phases are as follows::

Photo Submission: 1st August – 16th September 2018 (11:59 pm)
Evaluation: 17th – 27th September 2018
Winners’ Announcement: 28th September 2018

3. Participants
The Merdeka Photo Contest 2018 is open to all Malaysians over 12 years of age who are members of the Perdana Library. Membership is free and available online on the Foundation’s official website (www.perdana.org.my), as well as our Facebook page (Perdana Leadership Foundation). Alternatively, membership registration can be done at the Perdana Library counter.

4. How to Participate in the Photo Contest
To enter the Photo Contest, participants only need to follow these simple steps:
1. Register as a Perdana Library member.
2. Follow us on Instagram @plfperdana
3. Upload your photos on your own Instagram profile, and set profile to ‘public’.
4. Tag us @plfperdana and hashtag the photo with #plfmerdeka2018
5. In 50 words or less, share with us your love for Malaysia. Your caption can be in Bahasa Malaysia or English.

5. Terms & Conditions* of the PLF Merdeka Photo Contest 2018

Below are the terms and conditions of the Merdeka Photo Contest 2018. Failure to comply may result in disqualification.

1. Open to Malaysians above 12 years of age with a valid MyKad.

2. If you are under 18 years of age, your parent / guardian must give their legal consent.

3. Remember to set your Instagram profile to PUBLIC until the winners’ announcement.

4. Do not change your username until the winners’ announcement.

5. You are allowed only 1 photo per entry. Unlimited entries are allowed.

6. Past 1st to 10th place winners of our contest are welcome to enter but they are not allowed to submit their 2017 winning photos.

7. By submitting an entry to the contest, you grant PLF:
 i) Permission for your entry to be published on our website and all our social media sites, including but not limited to www.perdana.org.my (“PLF Website”) and you grant PLF a non- exclusive, irrevocable, royalty-free, worldwide, perpetual licence (with a right to sub-license) to use, republish, edit and/or modify your entry in any/all media (including in electronic format, hard copy and in PLF publications) for purposes connected with the contest and as described in these Terms and Conditions; and
 ii) The right to use your name and state of residence for the sole purpose of identifying you as the author of your entry and/or as a winner of the contest.

8. Notwithstanding the above waiver, in order to use entries as intended and advised in these Terms and Conditions:
(i) PLF may need to modify entries, including but not limited to resizing, cropping or colour adjustment as necessary, provided that PLF shall endeavour in undertaking such modifications to maintain the integrity of your entry as originally created; and

(ii) PLF shall provide a picture credit for all entries.

9. You own the copyright to your contest entry as its author. Your entry must be your own work, must not be copied, must not contain any third-party materials and/or content that you do not have permission to use, must not include any trademarks, and must not show inappropriate or dangerous behaviour, or otherwise be obscene, defamatory, distasteful, offensive, or in breach of any applicable law or regulation, or in breach of any confidentiality obligations owed by you to third parties. If PLF has reason to believe your entry is not your own work or otherwise breaches these Terms and Conditions, then PLF reserves the right to disqualify it.

10. Entrants confirm that each individual whose image is featured in the contest entry has given consent for the use of his/her image in connection with this contest and in accordance with these Terms and Conditions.

11. All entries will be evaluated by a panel of judges. Once announced, the judges’ decision is final and no correspondence or appeals will be entertained.

6. Photo Evaluation
Photos will be evaluated by a panel of judges, based on several criteria:

1. Visual Storytelling (40 marks)
The arrangements of elements in your photos; do they help to convey your story and message?

2. Photo Composition and Technique (40 marks)
This includes your camera angle, the elements you emphasize, and any filters you use.

3. Caption Creativity (20 marks)
You have up to 50 words to caption your entry, in BM or English. Descriptions of your photos are fine, but captions written with flair and creativity will be awarded extra marks. Your words have to be original.

Judges’ scores will be tabulated and prizes will be awarded based on the scores. Please note that each contestant can only win only ONE prize and if multiple entries by the same contestant place within the Top 20, only the highest-scoring entry will be considered.
There is also a bonus RM150 cash prize for the most popular photo, based on the number of likes on Instagram.
