On the evening of 3rd August 2025, Perdana Leadership Foundation hosted a dinner celebration titled “TunDrMahathir@100: The Centennial Celebration. Honouring a Life of Vision, Leadership, and Impact” in commemoration of the 100th birthday of our Honorary President, former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad. The event was attended by two hundred distinguished guests.
Held at Perdana Leadership Foundation, the event was a lively and casual mix of dinner, music, video, and speeches. Thanks to our Chairman, Tan Sri Azman Hashim, the Universiti Malaya Symphony Orchestra provided the musical backdrop for the evening, led by Professor Dr Nasir Hashim and guest-starring violinist Dr Yi Li Chang who serenaded the arrival of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Tun Dr Hasmah Hj Mohd Ali. Guests also enjoyed a specially set-up photo booth, capturing candid and memorable moments throughout the night, while many took the opportunity to write heartfelt messages in a guest book prepared for the Tuns to peruse at their leisure.
In his welcome address, Tan Sri Azman Hashim, Chairman of PLF’s Board of Trustees, reflected on Tun Mahathir’s leadership qualities, describing him as a man of adventure, fearlessness, and diplomatic finesse. He highlighted Tun’s unwavering decisiveness, particularly during critical times, noting how his bold choices not only propelled Malaysia’s development but also elevated the nation’s standing on the global stage.
Tan Sri Azman Hashim lived up to his moniker, The Singing Banker, that evening, when he entertained the guests with eight of Tun’s favourite songs, his lively performance accompanied by the UMSO. The audience were also given a special treat when Tun Dr Hasmah performed Gubahanku and Bisikan Hati on her violin, and Datuk Nora Ariffin, thanks to founding trustee Tan Sri Vincent Tan, made a special appearance, belting out crowd favourites.
Before the event drew to a close, a tribute video to celebrate the wedding anniversary of Tun Dr Mahathir and Tun Dr Hasmah was screened, as 4th August would mark 69 years of their marriage. The celebration was capped by the Centennial Pulut Kuning and Birthday Cake Ceremony, where Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Tun Dr Hasmah were presented with pulut kuning from Perdana Leadership Foundation and two beautiful birthday cakes from Berjaya Corporation.
The highlight of the evening came during Tun Dr Mahathir’s brief speech, in which he reminded people to appreciate their young and healthy years. “So many pictures from the past — I wish I could go back. It was very enjoyable being young. Of course, being 100 years old is great, but being young like all of you is much better. So, please enjoy yourselves while you’re still young,” he said with good humour.
Tan Sri Azman Hashim presented a special gift on behalf of Perdana Leadership Foundation to Tun Dr Mahathir and Tun Dr Hasmah: A specially commissioned artwork to commemorate Tun’s 100th birthday on 10th July 2025, by Malaysia’s beloved cartoonist, Seniman Agung Datuk Lat. It beautifully captures the warmth, humour, and enduring partnership of Malaysia’s most iconic couple, as well as the legacy of a leader who has profoundly shaped the nation’s history.
Guests also enjoyed a dedicated photo booth, capturing memorable moments of the celebration. Many took the time to pen heartfelt messages in our guest book, a keepsake for the Tuns to peruse at their leisure.
