The publication of this collection of papers in an outcome of the Inaugural Tun Razak Forum held on March 29- 30, 2005 in conjunction with the official opening of the new Yayasan Tun Razak building in Kuala Lumpur. indeed, this publication testifies to the success of the Forum which sought to gather individuals from various fields and profession to share their thoughts on the theme of “New Challenges Facing Poverty Eradication and Rural Development”.
The theme chosen for the Inaugural Forum is one that is identified with the late Tun Razak but it was also chosen because of its relevance. The Issue raised by the authors show that despite the progress that we have made, rural development and poverty eradication are still relevant concerns. Time and development may have changed the character of poverty as well as the challenges for rural development, but they have not made them irrelebant. it is my hope that the Yayasan, through the holding of the forum and his publication will contribute towards future government policies on the area.
