APPROACHING 2020: MALAYSIA’S DECADE FOR GROWTH?
VISION 2020 AND MALAYSIA’S ECONOMIC GROWTH AND PROSPECTS IN THE DECADE ARE THE MAIN THEMES AT THE PERDANA LEADERSHIP FOUNDATION CEO FORUM 2010
Vision 2020, Malaysia’s Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) and the challenges that Malaysia faces in its drive to become a fully-developed, high-income nation by the year 2020 were discussed and debated during the Perdana Leadership Foundation CEO Forum 2010 today, at Berjaya Times Square Convention Centre in Kuala Lumpur. Themed, “Approaching 2020: Malaysia’s Decade for Growth”, the Forum gathered thirty CEOs and industry experts who shared their views not only on Malaysia’s economic growth and challenges toward approaching 2020, but also on industry-specific and human capital development issues.
Modelled on the successful Industry Insights Seminar which was held last year, the CEO Forum was divided into ten plenary and concurrent sessions.
The Forum started with a plenary session, “Competitiveness, Innovation, and the Future of Malaysian Economy” that discussed Malaysia’s critical factors in its quest to become a fully-developed economy by 2020 with panelists, Tan Sri Dato’ Azman Mokhtar of Khazanah Nasional, Datuk Mohd Badlisham Ghazali of Multimedia Development Corporation, Tengku Dato’ Zafrul Tengku Aziz of Maybank Investment Bank Berhad and Mr. Andrew Chan of PricewaterhouseCoopers Capital Sdn Bhd. The session was moderated by Dato’ Dr. Mahani Zainal Abidin of Institute of Strategic & International Studies (ISIS).
The plenary session was followed by seven concurrent sessions, addressing the topics of biotechnology, services, youth marketing, managing creativity and innovation and leadership development in organisations. Among the speakers were Tan Sri Gnanalingam, the Executive Chairman of Westports Dato’ Sri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh, CEO of Tenaga Nasional Berhad, Tan Sri Dr. Sulaiman Mahbob, the Director-General of MIDA, Dato’ Azman Yahya, CEO of Symphony House and Mr. Ananth Lazarus, Managing Director of Microsoft Malaysia. YB Dato’ Sri Idris Jala, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department and CEO of PEMANDU also presented a topic, “Economic Transformation Programme: Driving the Nation to Vision 2020” in one of the concurrent session.
The highlight of the CEO Forum was the Closing Address by the fourth Prime Minister of Malaysia and the Honorary President of Perdana Leadership Foundation, Yang Amat Berbahagia Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad who shared his thoughts on the topic, “Are the Goals of Vision 2020 Achievable?”.
